The BCSSS fosters research in the field of systems sciences and supports systems thinking.

  • It administrates the archive of Ludwig von Bertalanffy and makes it open to the public.
  • It administrates also other collections which are of interest to the systems movement.
  • It carries out and supports research projects in the field of systems sciences.
  • It carries out and supports scientific activities like lectures, workshops, conferences and international co-operations of scientists interested in General System Theory and related fields.

The Bertalanffy Center is open for members of the systems movement, be they individual or organisational, who have an interest in promoting metatheoretical thinking. The BCSSS is an association by Austrian law. Its domicile is Vienna, Austria. It is member of the IFSR.

THE INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION FOR SYSTEMS RESEARCH (IFSR), founded 1981, is a non-profit, scientific and educational organization comprising a significant number of member organizations from all continents. The overall purpose of the Federation is to advance cybernetic and systems research and systems applications in order to serve the international systems community.
